I was first introduced to Young Living Essential Oils by a customer many years ago. He recommended Thieves Oil for my sore throat. I used it for years without knowing about other oils. When my husband, Matt, was bit by the Brown Recluse Spider we had a crash course in essential oils.
This year, we decided to start sharing about the benefits of Essential Oils. I research companies to be sure I wanted to use Young Living instead of another brand.
How to choose an Essential Oil company?
I wasn’t sure so I started just the way I always do by reading all the good and all the bad the internet has to offer. Oh there was some scuttlebutt, too! Sifting through info on both sides is something familiar to this raw milk drinking, non-vacinating, homeschooling mother.
I found a bunch of information and here is the summary:
Quality Control
I really like that the company owns the farms, manages the harvest, operates the distillery, takes care of the bottling, etc. They control all of it so they can control the quality of the essential oils. they call it Seed to Seal guarantee.
This is just like what we do with our milk and chickens. We do all the work to be sure nothing goes wrong. That way we control the quality.
Integrity
The most impressive to me though was the shortage of Valor early in 2014. It seems rosewood is an oil that is harder to come by. When the early 2014 harvest came in and the quality was low it was a pretty big disappointment. As farmers we sure can understand that! When the scientists went to the lab and tested it they announced there was not enough therapeutic value to use it. The rosewood shipment was sold to another company. I was impressed with the integrity of the company.
Effective
Quality control and the Integrity were two very important points for me. But the third was a make it or break it issue. Effectiveness. By this time we had used about ten to twelve oils for various ailments. There seemed to be an oil for every issue we had and they were working for us.
Safe for me! Gluten-free and Corn-free Medications
It really gets me excited that the Young Living Essential Oils are safe for me even with my corn allergy and my gluten sensitivities (I have Celiac’s Disease).
Medications are hard for people who are gluten free or corn free. Tinctures are derived from alcohol and that means corn. Syrups are made with glycerin and that means corn. Pills, even homeopathic, are bound usually with methylcellulose which is corn. Capsules are made with gelatin and that means corn.
Finding Essential Oils to be safe is remarkable, even amazing for me. Finally, safe solutions for health and wellness.
So there you have it. We like them, they work and they are safe for me so we are sticking with Young Living!
