AIMS: To identify the chemical constituents of voilital oil from blood orange (Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck) and understand the possible mechanisms of inhibition of colon cancer cell proliferation.

KEY FINDINGS: BVOE exhibited dose-dependent inhibition of cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in the colon cancer cells, as confirmed by flow cytometry.

A.  Normal cell

B.  Cell receives signal to begin apoptosis

C.  Cell begins to disintegrate

D.  Cell fragments removed by macrophages ( scavengers)
